Strikingly beautiful. A modern take on the ancient Chinese worldview that the Earth is square and the Sky round.
The round “Sky” forms the center well of the tray, gradually sloped so water drains effortlessly at the center. The square “Earth” provides a natural plateau for tea pots, tea cups and servers.
Carved from dark basalt, an igneous rock found in the hills of Hualong County, Qinghai Province, the tray’s surface is carved to resemble the interlace of woven bamboo mats. On the bottom corner a stamp is carved with four stylized Chinese characters: Xing Yun Liu Shui, a Chinese idiom meaning to flow naturally or smoothly. The tray is supported by two asymmetrical supports of natural bamboo lumber, made from laminating multiple strips of bamboo together to form a solid and contrastingly beautiful foundation for the stone tray.
Can be set up to drain directly into an included plastic tray or into an under-table reservoir via an included rubber tube. Also includes a bamboo mat.
