We added this Sturgeon teapot to our collection not only because of its delightfully whimsical design, but because the fish resonated with some of our staff member's affinity for all things aquatic. The sturgeon, hand-painted in shades of cobalt wraps around one side of the teapot, its tail and dorsal fin continuing onto the lid.

On the opposite side are four hand-written characters "Fu Gui You Yu". The idiomatic phrase means to overflow with prosperity. The last two characters "have prosperity" is a play on words that matches the fish motif - spoken phonetically in Mandarin Chinese, the two characters sound like "swimming fish".

Features a modern design with a stylized handle. Hand-crafted in Jingdezhen, each piece is shaped by hand with hollow handles, hand-painted in cobalt oxide under a glossy translucent glaze, then high-fired to produce its classic blue hue.  Our paper porcelain tea pots are a blend of old and new, crafted and hand painted in the Ming Dynasty tradition with a modern aesthetic.
